INNIO Group and KMW Partner to Build 54-MW Peaking Power Plant in Mainz
MarketingVogue.com – INNIO Group has announced a strategic partnership with KMW (Kraftwerke Mainz-Wiesbaden AG) to develop a state-of-the-art 54-MW peaking power plant in Mainz, Germany. The new facility will feature twelve modular energy systems designed to enhance energy flexibility and ensure reliable backup power for critical infrastructure.
Supporting Sustainable Data Center Operations
A portion of the plant’s energy capacity will directly support the “Green Rocks” data center, a joint project between KMW and Norwegian data center provider Green Mountain. This collaboration represents a major step toward sustainable, decentralized energy generation for digital infrastructure in the region.
INNIO’s decentralized energy solutions will play a key role in maintaining data center operations, even during grid outages, ensuring continuous uptime and energy resilience.
Commissioning Set for 2027
The 54-MW power plant is scheduled for commissioning by the end of 2027, marking a significant milestone in Mainz’s journey toward a more efficient and sustainable energy ecosystem.
A New Chapter for Mainz’s Energy Infrastructure
KMW board member Oliver Malerius highlighted the partnership as a pivotal step for Mainz’s energy infrastructure, emphasizing the project’s efficiency, innovation, and resilience. According to Malerius, this collaboration demonstrates how advanced peaking power solutions can support both urban energy needs and critical data center operations during blackouts.
